This beautiful agate was found near Mt. Shasta along side a creek bed. The trip to Mt. Shasta was part of a rock hounding adventure that included Mt. Lassen and Redding; areas known for Jasper, Agate, Obsidian, and Serpentine. My son and I gathered many fine specimens over the course of a week. When we returned from our trip, we sorted, cleaned and then tumbled them for 30 days. The inspiration for many of my designs begins with the stone. This the case with this piece.
I texturized and brushed the Sculpey with gold pigment and delicately wrapped it around the stone to compliment the soft hues of gray, black and gold. I deliberately understated the Sculpey bezel to accentuate the agate. After all, it is the star of the show. I envision wearing this brooch with a black or dark green scarf.
